We generate our log files in a /var/log/.../$HOSTNAME$ way, with ~5K
hosts, and havent needed to customise the interactive limits. It works
fine from rsyslog 3.18 to 5.6.2. On 3.18 I had bad problems with log
rotations, though.

OTOH, be sure to disable DNS (if you receive messages from old sysklogd
it may not be possible): that's the worst slowdown in our case.
