I've upgraded to 5.8.5 and I'm still seeing this. I can also reliably
reproduce it in a test environment with two VM's.

Most often the filename produced is simply ".log" as if the
programname field were empty. The messages, including the syslog tag,
in that file are totally normal.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to happen when debug output has been
enabled whether using the '-d' flag or setting RSYSLOG_DEBUG options,
or at least it hasn't happened yet. It happens within a matter of
minutes without debugging enabled.

I tried putting the debug log on a tmpfs in case writing to that file
was slowing things down enough to affect the behavior, but that
doesn't seem to have had any effect.

Any tips on how to further troubleshoot this?

Thanks again!
