I've setup a current Debian 5 as a side-activity and run into exactly the same issue you do. It looks like a script ylwrap was not generated by autotools (or it exists somewhere but does not report any real error message). Quick web search did not bring a solution but many of the same error messages.
Long story short: I have no idea on how to fix this on Debian 5.
