we currently use logstash and rsyslog...my thought was that since logstash
has support for some outputs that rsyslog currently does not, could it
bridge the gap?  sure it's less efficient than going direct, but it might
work as a stop-gap.

logstash for example can receive syslog and output amqp, but as i'm still
coming up to speed on kafka so maybe that wouldn't really work...but
logstash was effectively designed as a swiss army knife to whittle just
this sort of stick.

i'll have to find time to play with this in a lab, but i still agree being
able to use rsyslog as a kafka (or other broker) pipe has interesting use
cases.

yep some times i feel things are moving so fast no one has time to
actually do things well, just lots of half baked solutions fighting for
buzzword dominance.  :-)
