I am very happy to announce, that we are very close to replace our Ubuntu
repository with a PPA very soon :).
If you want to test our new PPA repository, you can do it already.
V7-Stable packages have been added already. We support "precise" and
"saucy" at the moment.
Put this in your sources.list:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/adiscon/v7-stable/ubuntu saucy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/adiscon/v7-stable/ubuntu saucy main
Or add it using add-apt-repository:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:adiscon/v7-stable
best regards,
Andre Lorbach
PS: Thanks again to Khushil for helping us to get started with Launchpad
;)

contributors
Yes I am interested in helping with this effort.
I am hoping this weekend I will have some time to look at how the
current
build process being used.

Actually, I am right now in a conference call with Andre and Khushil,
who offered help on the mailing list. We are setting up a PPA, and
makeing some progress. Again, I am more than happy for anyone else to
join that effort.
I think there are lots of things that could be improved. And obviously
it would be best to have at least a handful of folks involved.
Todd... any interest in joining that team as well? You obviously have
most experience...

Yes submitting the .changes files to an official ubuntu ppa repo is
done with dput once the packages have been generated and signed.
For example, to publish to my ppa I use.
dput ppa:tmortensen/rsyslogv7
rsyslog_7.4.8-0ubuntu1ppa1_source.changes
I tried to quickly look through the scripts in git but I am having
trouble
making sense what they are all for.
Is there another script that is used to run through all the scripts
to
build
the packages? I could not find a central script or documentation on
what all the scripts are suppose to do or how to use them.
Let me add some documentation on what I have found so far (and
learned from Andre himself).

is publishing updates to the PPA something that we could easily add

For my ppa I also put out an updated libee-dev. 0.4.1-0ubuntu1
Oh you already have a PPA?
I think you will have to do the same and create an updated
libee-
dev.
I think that is the case; after I sent that email it hit
me I probably should have the dependencies that are part of
rsyslog taken care of *before* doing rsyslog itself. Oops!
I do apologize I have not had much free time to figure out the
scripts
adiscon has developed to build the packages.
I actually have been using his scripts to see if I can
make
them
work *and* understand how they do work in the process.
The way I have been doing my ppa is using uupdate and the
process is very quick. Although I need to find time to package
the new log libraries to update my PPA as well.
I hope to have some free time soon to sink my teeth into this
way of doing things.
Don't feel bad; I too have not had much free time. I
wanted to get this done by end of the month but could not touch
it for the last
2 weeks. Let's see if I get this working this weekend; wish me
luck!

I don't mind uploading ppa's to a central place vs my
personal space I upload to now.

Don't know if I am brave or stupid, but I am game.
To
quote
Jeremey Clarkson, how hard can it be? ;)
If you are new to the process (as I am ;)), I am sure we can
both learn to do the right things and get involved in that
part of the process...
Quick question: from
https://github.com/rsyslog/rsyslog-pkg-ubuntu/rsyslog we have:
devo@devubuntu:~/rsyslog-pkg-
ubuntu/rsyslog$ fgrep libee-dev
precise/v7-stable/debian/*
precise/v7-stable/debian/control: libee-dev (>=
0.4.0),
devo@devubuntu:~/rsyslog-pkg-ubuntu/rsyslog$
But, from http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/libee-dev, the
precise version is 0.3.2-1
Is it required or it would be fine with 0.3.2-1?
