Using rsyslog 5.8.10 that comes with RedHat el6.  I have impstats modules

It seems like the only stats being collected are from imuxsock and main Q:

This page (http://www.rsyslog.com/rsyslog-statistic-counter/) seems to indicate
it's possible to get data for imudp and imtcp.  Am I missing something in my
config?  Or, what version of rsyslog should I be running to collect better
stats?  Thanks for any tips.

Well, the currently supported stable version is 8.2, so you really should be running that (or the 8.3 development version if you need something newer than what's in 8.2)

there is no configuration telling impstats what to report, so it's probably the case that way back then it didn't report anything else.
