Have you thought about a system like PECL for rsyslog? Not sure if this is
really needed and how easy it is to create something like that ("phpize" for
rsyslog)... but it would make the usage of external modules very easy...
Just an idea which came to my mind while reading...
These aren't external modules, just not fully supported.
When Rainer makes a change to an internal API, these modules are either changed
to match the new API or will continue to work as-is.
They just don't have as much testing and knowledge available.
