No, your decision was right. omoracle doesn't build for me with 8.x:

The last report indicating it was working seems to be with rsyslog-5.4.0
and oracle-instantclient-basic-10.1.0.x.

Yup, now I know that, too ;-)

imttcp was only enabled because at the time I started maintaining the
rsyslog ebuild, I added support for everything configure offered and
which was building without further dependencies. ;)
