Hello, I would like to convert my systems to using a dynamic filename template, similar to this recipe:
http://wiki.rsyslog.com/index.php/DailyLogRotation but as old habits die hard, I also want "less /var/log/syslog" to continue working. Currently, I have a cronjob that brute-force-maintains a symlink to "today's" files, but this is quite a hack and has failed me at times. I was wondering if rsyslog had the ability to maintain the symlink for me, i.e. create/overwrite a symlink whenever it switches to a new file? I'd also love to hear from people who are using similar schemes. Anything else is just terror on backups and requires hackish log rotation. Heck, I wish dated filenames were just the default! ;) Thanks, -- @martinkrafft | http://madduck.net/ | http://two.sentenc.es/ be careful of reading health books -- you might die of a misprint. -- mark twain spamtraps: [email protected]
