ahh, that's a different problem.
No, there is no way for the sender to know that the receiver isn't processing
messages (that's why relp was invented)
openssl s_client works too (the server is TLS):
even this only shows that you are connecting and able to do the ssl handshake,
it tells you nothing about if the system is processing messages or not.
impstats will tell you how many messages were processed in that time slice for
each input.
