Hi folks,

as you probably know, the EU mandates new data protection procedures
starting May, 25th. We are in the final steps of implementation.

One concern raised was the mailing list. There is a number of
uncertainties in how to handle mailing lists. Unfortunately, Adiscon
is not a big entity with our own lawyers, so we intend to play it safe
(otherwise it can quickly get very expensive here).

We need at least to do

- remove the mailing list archive
this was disabled today; I don't consider it a big deal as many other sites
archive the list as well; our own archive did not even show up very well
  on Google.

- change the "reply-to"
traditionally, the list response was set to respond to the list, as
to facilitate
the discussion. There was already controversy in Germany if this is actually
permitted or not under German law. With the new law, we finally consider
it too risky and so we will change this so that replies are sent to
the individual
  poster.
THAT MEANS YOU NEED TO "REPLY TO ALL" IN THE FUTURE TO ENSURE
YOU CONTINUE TO GET A FLUID DISCUSSION.
Sorry for that measure - I don't like it, but again it's too risky
otherwise. I will
implement this change most probably a bit later today.

Note that there is still some discussion if it is required that
everyone once again opts in into using the mailing list. Should we be
advised that this is indeed the case, I will need to unsubscribe
everyone. If so, I'll send a note along and you need to once again
sign up to the list.

Some more minor tweaks may need to be done, but if so it's probably
things that you don't even notice.

Sorry for the hassle, but that's how law has progressed and, as I
said, we need to take a risk-avoiding approach even though not all
measure may be strictly necessary.

Rainer
