You have users with names slightly different. Default mysql collation assume that some characters with umlauts are equal to characters without. If the current character set is latin1 then after upgrade people with name field containing anything outside ascii wouldn't be able to login (using name). As well, data would be corrupted as it's UTF8 stored in latin1 column.
You can: select different collation, rename conflicting users, convert name to latin1. First two solutions are preffered.
