*Role: Data Center Design Engineer* *Location: Blue Ash, Ohio* *Requirements:* • Work will be physically performed onsite at Bunker East or Metro Data Center. • Training will occur at Bunker East and some resources will be moved to Metro. • Work will be 1st or 2nd shift may include weekends and some 3rd shift and on-call work. • Open to all skill sets Associate, Intermediate, Senior. • Onsite technical screening of candidates preferred. • Target need mid-Feb 2019.
*Skill preferences for a new hires/contractor:* Soft Skills/ Non-technical • Aptitude and willingness to learn and document technology/processes. • Experience working in an environment with multiple support vendors. • Effective written and verbal communications. • Customer support experience in a support role. • Familiarity with safe working best practices. • Ability to lift 50 lbs. Technical Skills in Order of Importance 1. IT Skills o Familiar with enterprise ticketing system (Remedy). o Demonstrated ability log in to multiple domains. o Demonstrated ability to install key components in equipment(line cards, NICS, memory). o Demonstrated ability to perform basic scripting, familiarity w/PowerShell, run scripts, interpret/understand basic scripts. o Demonstrated ability to perform basic command line skills, navigate Remote Desktop sessions. o Demonstrated basic knowledge of networking, IP addressing, subnetting. Examples include running basic IP related commands (ping, nslookup, etc.), assigning IP addresses to server NICS. o Demonstrated troubleshooting abilities, diagnose and resolve problems with computer equipment(physical and virtual). 2. Data Center o Basic knowledge of common items in a data center (Servers, Storage, Networking Gear, Mainframe) and how they interconnect. o Understanding and ability install computer equipment(rack and stack blades, appliances, etc.) along with defined copper/fiber cabling per manufacturers requirements for power consumption, weight and air flow standards o Ability to read, understand and maintain elevation drawings. o Ability to use testing equipment; fiber testers, copper tester, common hand tools, power tools(hand held drill), server lift. o Adherence to asset management practices. 3. Windows Server OS o Understanding with Windows server and clustering - how to navigate and perform basic functions. o Examples include failover a cluster, perform IIS reset on server, manage services on a server, expand a partition on a disk, Active Directory basic functions familiarity (User management: Password Reset, Unlock Account…) 4. VMWare o Understanding of basic virtualization principles. o Familiar with how to navigate within vCenter. Examples include vMotion servers between hosts, place a host in maintenance mode, perform a VM snapshot, view and interpret host event logs. o Familiar with how to alter basic VM settings (CPU, Memory, Hard drive size). 5. UCS(nice to have, not required) o Understanding of blade or hyper-converged technology concepts. Examples include ability to navigate within Cisco UCS Manager, view and interpret faults within UCS manager, UCS Central. 6. Linux(nice to have, not required) o Basic knowledge of commands.
