Job Role – Oracle Database Administrator

Hands on Oracle Database Administrator experience running on Oracle 12c on RedHat Linux is a must - please do not apply otherwise.  The candidate will also serve as Oracle Developer – Complex SQL, PL/SQL, and Shell Scripting experience is desired.  The individual needs to work with end users directly for working on adhoc reports on need basis. The incumbent is expected to understand the data model and the actual data contained in the database, so he/she can generate reports.  This is a single DBA situation, must be independent and organized.  We are looking for individuals who can work on the assignment right away, with minimum learning curve.

The interview process will consist of resume review (step 1), telephone screening (step 2), and in-person interview (step 3). We plan to complete this process within 2 weeks after receiving resumes. Face to face is a must and video interviews (skype, etc.) will not be acceptable.  

 

Job duties include but not limited to:

  • Under broad supervision, the Oracle Database Administrator will be responsible for provisioning, maintenance, monitoring, performance tuning, backup and disaster recovery of databases.
  • Database monitoring of Oracle 12c running on RedHat Linux using Enterprise Cloud Control, including Development, Test and Production environments.
  • Administration of Oracle Active Data Guard for high availability, monitor archive logs, bandwidth usage between primary and standby databases
  • Monitoring Export/Import to ensure that RMAN and Full Database backups are running correctly and address any issues that may occur. The databases are hosted on physical servers, and these are backed up using Backup exec/Data Domain.
  • Database patching, monitoring alerts, monitoring space availability and address issues that may surface.
  • Monitor access to the database, log manual actions for audit purposes.
  • Respond to issues raised by developers, end users about database performance
  • Work with Process Improvement and Oversight (PIO) division to produce Adhoc reports that help the SBWC leadership to analyze operational data.
  • Improve the response time of reports by tuning SQL queries, procedures, functions, triggers, creating indexes and so on.
  • Support ICMS2 software developers with complex SQL queries, support with query tuning effort. Provide support by writing batch jobs, scheduling, using SQL, PL/SQL, and Shell Scripting. This role involves database software development apart from database administration.
  • Create technical documentation to ensure long term support for the database by the agency staff. Provide knowledge transition as necessary to SBWC staff.
  • SBWC envisions replenishing database server hardware in the near term, Oracle DBA is expected to plan and execute this transition in collaboration with SBWC System Administrator.
  • Patch the Oracle software and potentially upgrade to 18c as needed. Related components, like APEX, Oracle Data Guard, and Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) publisher need to be upgraded.
  • Produce reports using database views, materialized views and SQL queries. These objects are published to web applications for user functionality.
  • Work with SBWC subject matter experts (SME) and Process Improvement and Oversight division staff to analyze data and produce meaningful analytics that can support the leadership team in decision making.
  • Create new ways and means to improve database performance and availability.
  • Must be a strong team player, willing to work independently, and collaborate with others as needed.
  • Incumbent is expected to show professionalism and excellent written and verbal communication skills. This position is expected to interact with executive management team.
  • Migrate data from production to refresh TEST and DEV databases on a quarterly basis.
  • Participate in status meetings and provide written/verbal updates to SBWC.
  • Any additional project related activities as may be assigned.

Job Skills:

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) – DBA in Oracle 12c
  • Hands on experience in Oracle 12c databases running on Linux Operating system, including Active Data Guard, RMAN, and other Oracle Utilities (Data Miner, Data Pump, SQL Loader, EM 12c Cloud Control)
  • Application Software Development experience using SQL, PL/SQL, and Shell scripting
  • Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) including use of diagnostics and tuning packs to isolate and troubleshoot/tune issues.
  • Experience in creating, upgrading, and patching Oracle 11g and 12c environments on Linux/Unix.
  • Willingness to take initiative and learn new technologies on the job.
  • Preference will be given to employees of GA State, or any other state/local/federal employee in the DBA capacity will be preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology related field such as Computer Science, Compute Engineering, from an accredited college or university AND 8 years of database management system experience.
