REDCap is a web application created by Vanderbilt University for building and managing online surveys and databases. DOHMH currently works with a vendor that hosts an instance of REDCap. In addition, DOHMH is working on implementing an on-premise instance of REDCap. DOHMH continuously enhances its systems, databases and infrastructure in order to improve completeness of data and respond to emergent infectious agent threats and environmental management incidents (e.g., COVID-19, Zika Virus, Animal bites). More recently, DOHMH has embarked on an initiative to improve the capturing and reporting of diseases and incidents by leveraging the REDCap application created by Vanderbilt University for building and managing online surveys and databases. DOHMH will use REDCap to collect health care provider data and improve existing functionalities that exchange data with internal DOHMH systems. REDCap will be used to replace two (2) existing applications, Reporting Central and the On-Call Doctor Program: • The Reporting Central application utilized by the department’s division of Disease Control captures diseases, conditions and events reported by health care providers. It is used by providers to report cases of certain rare or highly infectious diseases and conditions in addition to suspected outbreaks and other potential public health threats. • The On-Call Doctor Program is an application within DOHMH through which clinicians answer complex questions from external healthcare providers. DOHMH users include epidemiologists, data analysts, call center operators, and clinicians.
