Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, maintain, and enhance databases, including designing physical database models and performing performance tuning for optimal efficiency.
- Conduct short- and long-term planning for database performance, storage, CPU, memory, and network requirements.
- Implement and manage database replication, backup, and recovery strategies to meet Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
- Enforce database security standards for production and non-production environments, ensuring compliance with HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley, and other regulations.
- Provide technical and architectural database support for the Integrated Eligibility System (IES) Program using ITIL-compliant methodologies.
- Configure and maintain Database High Availability (HA) solutions and client connectivity.
- Evaluate proposed database components to ensure they meet non-functional requirements (e.g., performance, scalability, security).
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all major installations and implementations.
- Actively explore and support new technology initiatives to enhance organizational capabilities.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in database administration, with 2+ years in a leadership role managing complex projects.
- 5+ years of Oracle database administration experience, including installation, applying Patch Set Updates, and working with ASM disk storage.
- 24+ months of experience with Oracle 12c or later, including software installation and patch management.
- Experience administering Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Experience with database structures for OLTP, OLAP, and high-volume transaction systems.
- Preferred: Experience in New York State or New York City government and/or Health & Human Services applications.
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in database performance tuning (database, memory structures, and SQL queries).
- Proficiency in implementing replication, backup, and recovery strategies aligned with RTO and RPO objectives.
- Strong knowledge of Database High Availability solutions and client connectivity configuration.
- Experience enforcing database security standards for sensitive data (e.g., PHI) under HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley, or other regulations.
- Methodologies:
- Familiarity with ITIL-compliant methodologies for IT service delivery.
- Strong documentation skills for maintaining clear and comprehensive records.
- Soft Skills:
- Proven leadership and team collaboration abilities.
- Proactive approach to exploring new technologies and troubleshooting issues.
Adaptability to handle additional responsibilities as needed.
