However, a surprise candidate has appeared in the race to be the Jayhawks next head coach. Sources have confirmed to FanStop.com that Alabama’s Dennis Franchione is very interested in the position, and would like to return to his roots in the Midwest. Franchione began his coaching career at Pittsburgh State in Kansas before moving on to New Mexico, TCU and Alabama. Known for his ability to turn programs around, Franchione has become the talk of the Jayhawk administration and might be the man to solve the woes of the football program. Franchione appears to be frustrated in Tuscaloosa, and while the Crimson Tide did beat rival Auburn two weekends ago, the looming possible sanctions from the NCAA under the reign of former head coach, Mike DuBose could be worse than first predicted. There is a strong possibility of major sanctions by the NCAA. Franchione, upon accepting the position at Alabama, signed a contract with an out clause that that should the Crimson Tide football program be hit with a seriuos sanction by the NCAA, he would be able to opt out of the contract.
