Castille catching on at F-back
09/01/03 TUSCALOOSA - Tim Castille couldn't tell you exactly how many times he's caught a football. He can tell you that his first catch as an Alabama football player caused an unusual response. "I was like 'ah, I caught the ball,'" said Castille, who finished with two catches for 38 yards. "I must have caught 100 million passes in my life but I was still excited. I felt young. I was just glad I had the ball in my hands." Castille started at F-back in his first college game, which marked only the eighth time since 1973 that a true freshman has started in the opener. Mike Shula chose a low-key way to celebrate his first win as the Alabama football coach. Shula said he headed home after returning to Tuscaloosa following the 40-17 win over USF at Legion Field. He was joined by several of his friends and a few family members to eat pizza and watch college football highlights on ESPN Sportscenter. Most of his family members had to fly home after the game, Shula said. Sophomore F-back Greg McLain, who missed time during fall camp with hamstring problems, didn't play on Saturday. Shula said the missed time slowed McLain's progress but he could have played on Saturday and is in the plans for the rest of the season. Linebacker Cornelius Wortham (elbow) also didn't play on Saturday and Shula said he remains "day to day." Charlie Peprah's 51-yard interception return marked the first time since 1979 that an Alabama defender scored the first points of the season for the Crimson Tide. E.J. Junior scored on a 59-yard interception return against Georgia Tech in 1979. http://tinyurl.com/lv08 ScR ______________________________________________________ RollTideFan - The University of Alabama Athletics Discussion List "Welcome to RollTideFan!
