Dee,
I see the same things you do, and it's not from a talent aspect. We
have talent, but this team lacks a leader. For every good or great team, you
have several individuals that will step up and be leaders for a team. This
year, Shaud is the only one and he can't do it by himself. The lack of
leadership from the senior class bothers me. Also, I think that the injury bug has
added to our troubles. So many freshmen and redshirts are out there trying, but
lack game experience. This will absolutely kill you in big games. All of
our opponents will see this on film and go after it.
Lastly, with all of the changes that have gone on before this season, I think
that this group is tired of football. It appears as though they are mentally
beaten before they play, almost an attitude of going thru the motions. A sad
state of affairs, but sanctions, bad recruiting, lack of depth and personnel
changes have all but done in the 2003 season. It's hard to see that team we
all love fall to such depths, but there will be better days ahead. How far
will rest in the hands of Mike Shula. Also, unless there is a change in the
leadership of our athletic department, be poised for more disappointment.
Sorry to paint such a picture, but it is obvious to me where we are, and I,
for one, do not like it!
