It was great fun to witness the opening game. Since Brent Carter was awesome, I didn't get to see what our defense is really capable of. The new shortstop, Mark Haske is really really quick & has a strong arm. I guess that explains why he's our lead-off batter. Allen Rice missed a line drive right over his head because he mis-timed his jump, but he made up for it by hitting that homer. Evan Bush & Charlie Lyons were a big disappointment batting. They both went down looking at almost every time at the plate. My idea of inexcusable mistakes are going down looking & balls rolling between the legs. Also, our clean-up batter, Michael McAllister playing right field & Zac Welch batting 5th never touched a bag. I realize that this was our 1st game & I'm always overly critical, but I'm concerned about our offense. We should have scored more runs against a team like UNO. We're going to miss our power hitters. As for the defense, we'll have to wait & see what they can do when we start giving up some hits. It could be, that this starting line-up will change when going gets tough. Also, Taylor Tankersley has been suspended for 6 games. The starting pitchers for today & tomorrow are freshmen. I have all the faith in the world in Jim Wells & I believe this team will be there in the end.
