Friday, July 23, 2004
Bryant-Denny Stadium
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The playing surface at Bryant-Denny Stadium will be replaced under
an agreement with Southern Turf Nurseries of Elberta, Ala. Work is scheduled to begin
on Saturday with completion slated for Friday, July 30.
Southern Turf installed a new playing surface last year, said Scott Urbantke, the
Tides director of athletic grounds and outdoor facilities, and we had a three-year
warranty. The field has been evaluated by both Southern Turf and The University and
the decision was made to exercise our warranty and have the turf replaced at no cost
to The University.
The current turf will be removed and replaced with Tif419 Bermuda sod.
Southern Turf is currently building practice fields and the game field for the 2005
Super Bowl to be held in Jacksonville, Fla., and also has recently installed playing
surfaces for the Atlanta Braves and the Florida Marlins/Miami Dolphins.
In related news, Bryant-Denny Stadium will sport new painted endzones for the 2004
season and the circle A logo will be added at midfield.
The new graphics in the endzones and at midfield will add some color to the overall
look of the playing surface, said Director of Athletics Mal Moore. and will follow
the consistent look we are showing throughout our facilities.
