Totally NOT true. In fact, the diva of Aussie sports is a sprinter named Cathy Freeman, who is an Aborigine. Freeman is the first Aboriginal sprinter to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games (1994), her first of three Commonwealth gold medals. She also won a silver medal in the 1996 Olympic Games and a gold medal in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, as well as two gold's at the World Championship (1997 and 1999). She is very proud of her Aboriginal background and has carried the Australian and the Aboriginal flags (yes, there is one) around the track after winning a race. She has often appeared on television to encourage young people to live healthy lifestyles and to do their best. She was named Young Australian of the Year in 1990 and Australian of the Year in 1998. She is the first person to receive both awards. A picture of her (with the flags) can be found here: http://www.rediff.com/sports/2003/jul/16pic2.htm Sadly, a number of factors led Cathy to retire just before the start of the Track and Field Trials for the 2004 Olympics. ROLL TIDE ROLL!
