TUSCALOOSA – A trio of University of Alabama players have grabbed the attention of the league’s basketball head coaches. The Southeastern Conference has released its first, in what is to be annual, men’s basketball preseason All-SEC first and second teams.

Crimson Tide junior forward Kennedy Winston was named first team. The Prichard native led Alabama in scoring last season, averaging 17.1 points in all games and 18.9 points a game against the SEC. Winston is also a preseason John R. Wooden All-American.

Two Tide players were voted All-SEC, 2nd Team. Senior Earnest Shelton, a guard who averaged 15.8 points last season, and junior forward Chuck Davis, who averaged 11.5 points and a team-leading 5.9 rebounds, were both on that list.

The First Team All-SEC included Winston, Florida’s David Lee, Anthony Roberson and Matt Walsh, Kentucky’s Chuck Hayes, LSU’s Brandon Bass, Mississippi State’s Lawrence Roberts and Tennessee’s Scooter McFadgon. Roberts and Roberson were unanimous selections on all 12 of the league’s head coaches’ ballots.

The Second Team All-SEC squad includes Davis and Shelton of Alabama, Ronnie Brewer of Arkansas, Kentucky’s Kelenna Azubuike, South Carolina’s Carlos Powell, Tennessee’s Brandon Crump and C.J. Watson, and Vanderbilt’s Mario Moore.
