The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl selected Florida as the SEC participant in its Dec.
31 game at the Georgia Dome, executive director Gary Stokan said.

The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl's selection committee met in the Ivan Allen Room in
the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce building Monday night to choose between
Florida (7-4, 4-4 SEC) and Alabama (6-5, 3-5) from the SEC side. An official
invitation can't be extended until Sunday, after the SEC Championship Game.

The selection committee on Monday also eliminated Virginia from consideration
from the ACC side. So with Florida State accepting a bid to the Gator Bowl,
that means Florida will play the loser of Saturday's game between No. 10
Virginia Tech and No. 8 Miami.

"We figure we can't lose either way," Stokan said.

It will be the Gators' first Peach Bowl appearance since Dec. 31, 1981, when
they lost to West Virginia 26-6. Florida's struggles this season resulted in
the firing of coach Ron Zook, who hasn't said if he will stay on for the bowl.
However, the Gators beat Florida State in the regular-season finale.

Virginia Tech (9-2) and Miami (8-2) will be playing for the ACC championship
and a BCS bid on Saturday. The Hurricanes and Florida are natural rivals who
are not scheduled to meet again in the regular season until 2008. But the
Hokies and their fervent following may actually travel better to Atlanta.

The Peach Bowl is headed toward an eighth consecutive sellout. However, some
tickets are still available by calling 404-586-8499.
