Any recruiting gurus out there that can tell me how good this class really
is. I really never feel like I can trust all these various ranking magazines
and such. I really stopped trying to figure it all out a few years ago.
Anybody analyzed our commits? Whadya think?

>At a press conference this morning at Godby HS in
>Tallahassee, the 6-0, 195-pound Upchurch made an
>announcement that Alabama fans have been waiting a long
>time to hear. The Parade All-America running back picked
>the Crimson Tide over Florida State and Arkansas.
>
>"The Alabama coaches laid it all out there," Godby head
>coach Shelton Crews said on Monday morning. "Coach [Bob]
>Connelly did a great job of recruiting Roy. They
>developed a close relationship. And the two visits Coach
>[Mike] Shula made down here really helped."
>
>Upchurch is the fourth running back to commit to Alabama
>in this year's class. He joins Ali Sharrief (5-10, 188,
>4.5) of North Jackson, Glen Coffee (6-0, 205, 4.45) of
>Fort Walton Beach, FL and Mike Ford (6-2, 205, 4.4) of
>Sarasota, FL.
>
>"All along Alabama just made Roy feel like they really
>wanted him," Crews said. "They told him from the very
>start and all the way through that he was the top guy on
>their board."
>
>Another factor in Upchurch's decision was the Tide's
>running game.
>
>"He knows Alabama is committed to running the football,"
>Crews said. "Alabama uses the run to set up the pass.
>Florida State is just the opposite."
>
>After an injury-plagued junior season, Upchurch emerged
>as one of the nation's premier running backs this year.
>As a senior he rushed for 2,543 yards and 27 touchdowns
>and was named Parade All-American.
>
>On Sunday night, a coach at a rival school in
>Tallahassee told TI that Upchurch had all he tools to
>become a star at Alabama.
>
>"I watched a lot of film of guys like Cedric Benson and
>Carnell Williams when they were in high school, and Roy
>Upchurch is one of those types of backs," the coach
>said. "He's got speed [4.4] and he'll run over people.
>With some maturity, he could be a great one."
>
>Upchurch is the 31st prospect to commit to the Crimson
>Tide. Prospects will sign their national letters of
>intent on national signing day this Wednesday.
