AUSTIN - Famed football coach Gene Stallings and Houston businessman Lupe Fraga have been named to the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents, Gov. Rick Perry announced Thursday.

The Senate must still confirm the appointments. If approved, Stallings and Fraga will serve until February 2011.

Stallings is a former Texas A&M player who coached the Aggies from 1965-71. He led Alabama to the national championship in 1992.

Stallings is also a former Dallas Cowboys assistant and head coach of the St. Louis and Phoenix Cardinals, now called the Arizona Cardinals.

Fraga, from Sugar Land, is chairman and CEO of Tejas Office Products. He is also chairman of the board of the Houston branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

     Both are Texas A&M graduates.
