Respected Sir, We the undersigned are very disturned to read in the newspapers that DoPT is recommending the name of Sh Shekhar Singh for consdiration for appointment as the next Chief Information Comissioner. One of the criteria for the post is that the appointee should be an "eminent" person. We do not understand how Mr Shekhar Singh qualifies in any way to be classiifed as "eminent", ie. "above all others" as per the dictionary meaning. We are also concerned that with Mr Shailesh Gandhi (former Convenor of NCPRI) being already aappointed as an Information Commissioner to CIC, that Mr Singh's appoinment (considering that he too is a past NCPRI Convenor) is a case of excess partiality to this particular organisation. It is an also open secret that the NCPRI and Mr Singh are financed by US Intelligence front organisations and business interests such as GOGGLE.ORG. Over the past few months, we have witnessed the unsavoury media wars between sections of civil society lobby (including politically) for their own candiates. Obviously eligble retired Govt servants cannot indulge in such open lobbying and are hence discriminated against for appointment to this prestigious post. Accordingly we beg that you shall only list suitable names for consideration by the 3 member committee, which strictly conform to the mandate of the RTI Act's requirement - and where the eminence criteria is clearly evident. KIndly preserve thsi communication, and all material pertaining to the finalisation of consideration list for next Chief Info Commissioner, as we intend to apply for it in RTI after the appointment is announced and the process completed.
