MoS(M.E.A) Shashi Tharoor has expected to submit his resignation as a Member of India's Parliament after he was picked to be India's next Chief Information Commissioner after a high voltage campaign which has excited the nation.
Tharoor is a member of the Indian Parliament<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Parliament>from the Trivandrum constituency<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiruvananthapuram_%28Lok_Sabha_constituency%29>in Kerala <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerala>. He served as the UN Under-Secretary General<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under-Secretary-General_of_the_United_Nations>for Communications and Public Information between June 2002 and February 2007, during the term of Secretary-General Kofi Annan<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kofi_Annan>at the United Nations <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations>. In 2006, he was the official candidate of India <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India> for the office of United Nations Secretary-General<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Secretary-General>, and came second out of seven official candidates in the race. He is also a prolific author, columnist, journalist, human-rights advocate, humanitarian and adviser or fellow of various institutions, including the International Committee of the Red Cross<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Committee_of_the_Red_Cross>, the Aspen Institute <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspen_Institute>, and the USC Center on Public Diplomacy<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USC_Center_on_Public_Diplomacy> . The Chief Information Commissioner of India is selected by a 3 person Committee which includes Mr Lal Krishna Advani the leader of India's opposition the Bharatiya Janta Party. The appointees must be person s of eminence in public life with wide knowledge and experience in law, science and technology, social service, management, journalism, mass media or administration and governance. The previous incumbent Mr Wajahat Habibullah had resigned last month to join the cabinet of India's autonomous state Jammu and Kashmir where India's Information law does not apply.
