1) The Indian State is not a Police state (as yet). I think we have all
forgotten Emergency days inflicted on India by Gandhi parivaar.

2) the UID is not a PAN number, it does not track "transactions". It is an
"optional" number. You cannot be compelled (as yet) to take a UID. What it does
will do is enable the State to "identify" and "profile" RESIDENTS of India -
with the aim of squishing the "troublesome" (incl. RTI activists) ones.

3) The UID scheme as it exists is violative of the Indian Constitution
provisions and some judgements of the Supreme Court on privacy. Which is why
the Govt is touting UID as a "voluntary" scheme. However, in practice you will
need to volunteer for UID to get a bank account, passport etc. There is no
LEGAL BASIS for UID (as yet). To circumvent this the GoI is implementing UID
through another equally dubious body - the Planning Commission - which is a den
of corruption packed with some of the biggest touts of India.

4) The GoI has selected Nandan Nilekani (don't be fooled by his ghost written
book) acrefully. This man has evolved far beyond the Sam Pitroda slimeball
model - in fact he openly consorts with touts and fixers in delhi's hot spots.
All these people (Manmohan Singh, NN, Pitroda, Montek Singh) are puppets of
foreign Intelligence agencies who want to maintain / profile Indian Citizens
like they do their own. The entire UID is being indirectly financed with "war
against terror" funds from US.

5) Unfortunately most Indians are easily fooled by the carrots (check black
money / illegal Bangladeshis / corruption etc) our netas dangle before them.
Don't swallow such garbage. UID is a tool to identify YOU !!!

6) Mr Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler and many others have been identified
positively in the 1984 Sikh riots. Has any action been taken against them for
25 years ? UID will not help you to punish them, it will help them to punish
you. The Police is in the pocket of the neta class - the Police will get
hand-held devices to read / search / profile UID information.

7) As Ram has said, Indians dont trust the State to preserve our privacy. Any
Mafia hacker running botnets can access so called India's databases. When the
Govt of India is so incompetent that they cannot even draft and notify the
security procedures for "secure online transactions" (previously reqd by IT
Act) it is farcical to expect that a private UID database operator like
UID/Nilkekani will be any better.
