"a million years old"??? Do you know how old is earth? Its 4.7 Billion years old. The gneiss rocks would be almost 3.8 to 4.01 Billion years old, if not older. Unless the rock contains some form of fossils preserved, which is very unlikely, GSI would only provide technical advise and not permission. Gneiss along with granites are being mined ruthelessly in various quaries in Rajasthan, Deccan and East India. So this is rock is most likely to be quaried by some greedy merchant for export purpose. So if you are indeed staying close to this rock, make sure that you do not contact silicosis from the constant quarying and cutting of this huge rock.
