A while back somebody posted a note on the use of matlab and rt-linux
for a student lab, reported in an article in the IEEE Control Systems
Magazine (June 2000 issue, page 12: "An undergraduate laboratory
platform for control system design, simulation, and implementation").
The article details how interfaces were written with rtlinux for
hardware. The students write matlab scripts to implement the actual
control loops. This is not real-time, just convenient and fast enough
for this purpose.
