I have a little RT process that reads encoders and
writes motors at 1KHz. Usually, to debug my
application I would first test the outputs using a
rtl_printf. I'd usually run the program from inside X,
switch to a different workspace (non an X workspace
but a real new Linux login, pressing ALT+CTRL+F5 or
Fwhatever) and look at the outputs. This would
sometimes crash the system, but it would usually work.

Lately I can't seem to run the same stuff from outside
X, not even applying that trick. If I run the program
from outside X it crashes right away. If I do it from
inside X it's perfectly fine. And then I just look at
the output with dmesg. I know I could use fifos and
printf from user space. But my question is if anyone
has any idea of why I'd get such crashes.

thanks

f
