That's so far the only solution as the X problem seems to be a hardware problem. X4.x.x is really fast and makes use of many hardware features that are not good for realtime. I don't know if it's possible to stop X from doing this with the extra layer of RTL (I guess: no, not possible - hardware or: too much work for a small problem ...) Realtime and X seems to be not really a good friendship. Maybe we will move with the GUI to another box (X-forwarding should work). I don't know if the presence of a video card in a PC can destroy all the realtime dreams. Hopefully not.
