Hi Frank,

First make sure that /dev/rtf1 exists on your system. As I recall
this is not a part of the default installation. If the device is there
check that whatever account you are using has permissions to access 
/dev/rtf1 device. When these devices are created they are owned by 
root and normal user accounts do not have the correct permissions to 
access them.
