Take a good look a "Glish".  It was designed for the purpose of controlling
things like Radio Telescopes and analyzing data from same.  It is free
and actively maintained.  Looks like a very good fit with RTL.  The
300 page manual time some time to read however.  

It is not for non-programmers but I assume if you are messing with RTL
you _are_ a programmers.
