This is exactly how I measured the jitter affecting the scheduling
time of a periodic, real-time task under RT-Linux. I was testing
a 386sx 20Mhz on a PC104 board, and to perform the measurement
I added a PC104 module featuring two Intel 8254 counters.
The results agree very well with those obtained using a digital oscilloscope.
