Hi,
You just have to make "insmod -f <module>" to force the module's
installation even if the kernel version is not correct.

Subject: [rtl] FW: rtlinux using RedHat 5.2 source
Date: Wed, 3 Mar 1999 13:15:47 -0500
All:
I was told that this list would be a good place for help with rtlinux
but
someone please let me know if this is not right and I will not send more
mail.
I'm pretty new to Linux and I'm trying to get a real time kernel up and
running. I'm currently running RedHat 5.2 (Linux 2.0.36). I've
downloaded the rtlinux2.0.36-9J.tgz file (already patched source as I
understand) and
extracted it in the /usr/src/ directory. I set a symbolic link so that
"/usr/src/2.0.36" points to the "/usr/src/linux" directory. I then move
to
/usr/src/linux and run make mrproper, make xconfig, make dep; make
clean,
make zImage, make modules and make modules_install. I then copy the new
kernel and system map to the /boot/ directory and name them
appropriately
(rename the old kernel and
system.map and name the new files with the original file names from the
old files). I then run lilo. I then move to the /usr/src/rtl directory
and
run "make" (this puts the rt modules into the /usr/src/rtl/modules
directory). Now I reboot. The machine boots BUT the rt modules won't
load,
reporting that "<module> was compiled for kernel version 2.0.36-RTL9J
while
this is version 2.0.36". I'm using insmod to manually load the modules
when
I receive
this error.
I'm new to linux and I'm not sure which way to go next. Any help would
be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Matt Wolfe
