Hi All,
After much delay I am pleased to say that I have taken the first steps
to get M-Systems DOC2000
running under RT Linux. ( version 0.9J I must add )
The Documentation from M-Systems IM-DOC-021 is excellent in helping you
get going.
It contains almost all the information you need.
Some points.
When you get a motherboard with the standard DOC socket in it your linux
system WILL NOT boot.
Lilo will hang.
You have to replace the firmware as instructed in the manual....
I had to find an Old MSDOS boot floppy to do this.
After that the system will boot just fine.
You will not be able to use the DOC device until you have patched the
kernel source.
You have already patched it for RT Linux however so the M-Systems
patches may not work.
I have patched the 2.0.36 manually on top of RT Linux. It was not hard.
The modified files are attached.
Note you'll need to download the kit from M-Systems as well.
http://www.m-sys.com
The missing patch from the M-Systems documentation was the one to
include
the flash_doc subdir in the block Makefile.
You need the proper make CFLAGS to compile the sources for the flash
disk driver.
I have not yet done the following...
If you want to boot from the DOC you have to use a patched lilo.
You also have to restore the old firmware onto the DoC.
The patched lilo needs a smaller kernel size and a different boot.b
All info is in the M-Systems documentation.
My test system now has both a SAN DISK IDE and a DOC system running
...cool.
I'll be bringing it to the LinuxWorldExpo RT Linux talk and BOF in
August ( be there plug plug).
I know there are a number of people interested in this technology.
I posted this as soon as I got the first step covered.
I'll post more details as I get into it.
That's all for now.
