I loaded RedHat-6.1 and then downloaded the V1.2full and re-built my
kernel.
Unfortunately, the 2.036 kernel couldn't find the swap built by linux 2.2.x
So I started over with a RedHat-5.0 (after using fdisk to delete
partitions)
and then upgraded to RedHat-6.1 and rebuilt V1.2full (having to patch
kernel
as stated in the compile because of using new ecgs version on linux 2.0.x.
Then EMC wouldn't compile and I re-installed the gcc-2.7.2 and then I had
to
install gcc-2.8.1 (because it complained about __thow) and had to edit
out a #ifdef linux_2_2 (a struct definition was missing -- NIST must be
working towards linux 2.2 and it got into the Sep17 version of EMC).
(also, EMC still wants the modules without the ".o", so a link or renaming
works)
Then I got mysterious run-time errors breaking down in fgets().
To solve, and then make a
link from the 2.7.2 load-libraries to actually point to the 2.8.1 and
everything linked and I was able to run XEMC (their simulator app).
I obviously made a muck of my compile libraries and I even rebuilt the
librcs.a
(which comes already made by NIST and has it's compiler version labelled in
the rcsversion.o as ecgs1.???), but it had no apparent effect.
The point I'm trying to make is that maybe it's a bad idea to go to 2.0.36
and
instead rebuild EMC under V2.2 for whatever that entails and thus sync up
partition
magic, compiler, kernel, and patch versions.
