I do not understand what you mean for precision. Clearly the 8253 run a
about 1 Mhz and cannot have a resolution of a TSC running at 600 Mhz. If
you refer to stability for the relatively short times  we verified is as
good.

Agreed. I just meant that once you go periodic you cannot resolve
nothing but the period and that is the only timing resolution you have
and can trust. In most application, likely to be digital control
systems, people
needs just a stable pacing not a precise solar time. Those are usually
the most demanding applications.
