Hi!

A few month ago, i announced a (hopefully) interessting talk
about some kind of real-time linux used to run a $12.000.000 full
flight simulator.

The talk was held at the LinuxPark during the System99
(an IT-Faire in Munich/Germany with 136.000 visitors)

Anyway: the talk (in english language) can be watched at

We know, what it is possible with linux nowerdays, but
be astonished how well industrie adopted it!

Currently, their kernel-modifications are not published since
they are only used "inhouse" (GPL does allow that).
But now, they had so much success with Linux, so that
they will make their tools GPL rather soon.

Ok, the real-time Linux at CAE (i have forgotten the
name of their rt-variant) isn't as complex as RTL2.0
or RTAI is: there is only one main task that will
be invoked ever 1/60 second. But this task has
many Subtasks for the hydraulics-, 3D-visualization
and flight-dynamic-simulation Systems etc.

They have a bunch of tools to ensure the robustness
of a software based on that architecture ... these will
be released as well.

As they ported their stuff from AIX to Linux, the
tools exist for over 10 years now, and have been
developed over a long time ... usualy such a
software suit wouldn't be affordable unless you
are willing zu pay Millions of $.

enjoy the movie

Bernhard

P.S.: you will have to download and install RealPlayer G2 for Linux:
