Well, I actually clarified to Stuart before that I agree that ns usage
for timing functions is the way to go - we just have to tell anybody in
advance that he does not get full 1 ns resolution.
Then it was pointed out to me there is something like clock_getresolution 
(sorry, I forgot the name already :-).
