In the MTD (Memory Technology Device) package at http://www.linux-mtd.infradead.org/ 
is a detailed
description how to make Linux bootable from a linear flash system. The basic hardware 
requirement
is a memory window at a location so that it can be recognized as a bios extension. 
Thus, a system
consisting of only NAND or serial flashes will not work.
