Thanks for the suggestions.
I did download the prepatched kernel to the /tmp directory decompressed the
tar archive and followed the installation instructions. My box still boots
with the
2.2.5-15 kernel. When I try to run the examples they complain and say they
were
compiled for a 2.2.13 kernel.

Somehow I think the prepatched kernel file from rtlinux.org should have been
in the
usr/src/linux directory rather than the /tmp/rtlinux-2.0/linux directory.
Is this the case?
Any additional tips welcomed!!!
