Paolo: I know that, of course, RTAI is superior in every way to our
poor efforts, but when the system gets TLB timeout errors on bootup,
before any modules are loaded, it cannot be suffering from too
much time in RT components. Our experience is that there is some other
problem in this case: it usually shows up in overclocked boards or
in boards that are otherwise SMP unreliable.
In any event, the fix I prefer is to postpone the actual TLB
invalidate while letting the requesting Linux processor continue.
This keeps the principle of not having RT components wait on Linux although
for most cases, nothing much is lost with any of the three approaches.
