No. RTLinux is not the only one that do that. Some Real-time extensions
for WindowNT 4.0 also
uses a similiar paradigm. See www.radisys.com and www.venturcom.com. But
they are not opensource!.
Both support C++ though. NT is not real-time by itself mainly because of
the level of scheduling priorities and
handling of interrupts.... Both sites has some info on that. From my
experience, if you do not really want to partition
your app into real-time and non-real-time component, you might want to try
Linux/RT (www.timesys.com).
RTLinux is very simple and easy to use but this paradigm is also very
rigid.
Above all, each of the real-time OS's has its own advantages and
disadvantages. It all depends on your requirement.

Subject: [rtl] Why RTLinux?
Hello all:
I have to justify my decission of using RTLinux instead of another
realtime operating system in my MSc project. Basically my reasons are
the known advantages of Linux:
- Popularity
- Free software (we spent a lot of money in hardware so I couldn't
sustain this very much if a censor points this out)
- Free support
- Open sources
- Independence from companies
"The RTLinux Manifesto" remarks the advantages of MERT's decoupling of
realtime part and non-realtime part. Is still RTLinux the only OS that
uses that approach? (apart from RTAI, of course).
Could you help me with aditional reasons to support my decission?.
I have seen WindowsNT 4.0 mentioned as a realtime operating system.
Can
it really run hard realtime user tasks?.
Thank you.
