Hi,

I'm trying to build a program for rtl which will be used for time-stamping of
events. I get notified of any event through the ACK interrupt on the
parallell port. The precision isn't too critical, but it has to be < 1 ms.
Now, I need some way to keep the system time on track.. for this I want to
use GPS transmitting standard NMEA sentences and a PPS signal connected to a
serial port. To syncronize the clock with the GPS, I was planning to use the
ntpd, and that worked fine with only the NMEA sentences (with very poor
precision though), but for the PPS to work, I need to install the PPSkit (I
think..). Problem is, that I can't find a patch for realtime linux.. I can't
use both the rtl & pps patch on the same kernel.. Have anybody ever done that
before, or know about some clever tricks so that I can use PPSkit with rtl?
Or even better, some way of doing it without using PPSkit?
The GPS is a Garmin GPS31HV and I'm running RealTime Linux 3.1 (kernel 2.4.4)
and NTPD v. 4.1.1
PPS signal is connected through a level converter to the DCD pin on the same
serial port as the NMEA sentences..

regards,

Trond
