The patch applied cleanly?  I am surprised it did as many of the files
rtl3.1 tries to patch have changed a bit since 2.4.4.

Also, unless you know how to hand-modify entry.S (and perhaps other files
as well), 2.4.18 cannot be used with the 2.4.4-compatible rtl3.1... I
managed to hand-patch everything only to have the kernel die as soon as I
tried to run an rtl thread.. and I think it has to do with the way entry.S
has changed since 2.4.4.... ?
