I am currently using 7.3 with kernel 2.4.18 - it works great.

In fact this is as stable and tame a combination Ive seen since RTL 1.1 and
kernel 2.0.36 under RedHat 5.2.

you might not have to - in fact I patched rtlinux-3.0/3.1 into the SuSE and
RH patched kernels and it worked - but taking a clean kernel from kernel.org
is the safe solution.

your install is not complete then or your path settings are very strange,
yacc should reside in /usr/bin and that better be in your path...

SuSE 7.0/7.2/7.3/8.0
RH 7.0/7.2/ ( 7.3 was reported to be ok - never tried it )
Mandrake 8.2 should be no problem
Slcakware 8.0 also works ok

For a step-by-step install guide for SuSE 8.0 check out
ftp://ftp.fsmlabs.at/pub/rtlinux/contrib/rt_install.txt , this is for
installing 2.4.18 rtl3.1 based on ripoll's patch on UP.
