If you have APM enabled your system simply will not be hard-realtime any more
but that should not crash it. RTLinux does not manage/adapt to powermanagment
related changes in the system.

Does the system freez when you insert  modules/rtl.o only or is it a later
rtl_* module that freezes the system ?
